He was a regular member of the 1999-2000 Ligue 1 championship-winning Monaco side. However, the youngster fell out of favour with coach Claude Puel after admitting his desire to leave. He was subject of much interest from EPL clubs, with both Blackburn Rovers and Fulham FC trying to sign him.
